Giant Goobus Family

Description

This was for one of my courses at CSULB. Anatomy for the Artist. Though we usually focus more on people and their form, anatomy, muscles, and bones, one project we did was creature design in which we used elements of different animals to create a creature. So I went back to Goobus but this time I decided to go all out. I redesigned the Giant Goobus into a more realistic form, looking to gorillas for the bodily form and iguanas for skin texture and facial structure. At first I was going to use a therapod like a tyrannosaur (I still used elements of that for the feet) but I wanted to show that though these beings are large and can be fierce, they are for the most part gentle giants.

For those of you who remember my Goobus and other creatures, you'll know I was extremely excited! :D

Giant Goobus can range between 8-10 ft at the shoulder while on all fours, some can be as large 16 ft while standing and weigh between 8-12 tons. Males tend to be larger than females, they also have larger claws and more numerous long spines down their back. Males also have colorful markings that go from their faces down to their backs, limbs, and tails. Giant Goobus can live to be as old as 160 though the average lifespan is between 70-120. They are omnivores, live in family groups and communities (as do all Goobus species), and believe in a particular God of the Capital Pantheon. Each species worships a particular God based on their values and beliefs. The Giant Goobus worship the God Yuuba of Truth, for they value honesty and trustworthiness above other virtues. Giant Goobus are also unique from other Goobus species in their form. Other Goobus species stand on two legs like a therapod lacking arms and have one eye.

This here is a family spending time together in their mountain homelands. This was during a time before the Divine Empire launched their attack on the world of Doobay. A time of peace and harmony. All the races lived in good grace with each other, the land was pure and untouched, King Santbos' people flourished and thrived in their homelands. But then came the Dark Claws...

This took me about 4 days to do, 2 of them on the details alone (mostly the scales). May color later.

This is nicely done. Super detailed. Which is really incredible, although since it isn't colored it makes it difficult to distinguish the characters. (I'm not saying it needs to be colored though.) The couple on the left are a little hard to tell apart. If that makes sense. A good trick to do when drawing is to look at the drawing and squint your eyes. If you can still tell what is going on your good. If not you may need to make changes or learn for next time.
You definitely have an eye for detail. It is very impressive. The expressions you gave these charming creatures is very cute. What a happy family. I hope my critique was helpful in some way. Keep up the good work!

I know it may seem funny that I said everything is a 3.5 star, but it seems to me that you did pretty good on all of these things. It's not just me being lazy don't worry.
